A record number of people used Sky's on-demand TV service in 2013.

Statistics from the broadcaster show 4.4 million customers are now watching its programmes online, which makes it the UK's leading connected TV platform.

Sky said it received 450 million on-demand viewing requests through Sky+HD boxes and a further 770 million from its Sky Go service, which allows users to watch content on devices such as laptops, tablets and smartphones.

Luke Bradley, Sky's brand director for TV products, stated: "We're passionate about giving our customers their favourite content however they want to watch and will continue to make Sky’s connected TV services even bigger and better during 2014."

The organisation still has some way to go if it is to catch up with the BBC's iPlayer however, as new figures show the service received three billion views in 2013.
