Research shows Brits' growing demand for tablets header image

The demand for tablet computers in the UK continues to grow, new research has revealed.

Statistics from the International Data Corporation (IDC) show 2.6 million of the devices were sold in Britain between July and September this year.

This is an increase of 38.7 per cent on the previous 12 months, which is slower than earlier rates of growth, but tablet sales were still more than those of laptops and desktop computers combined.

Catherine Lowry, IDC research analyst, said the UK is now the leading European market for the devices.

The IDC revealed Apple remains the leading tablet producer, but Samsung has doubled its shipments and gained an increased market share.

It forecast the final quarter of 2013 will see a surge in sales as people buy tablets for the Christmas period.
