The number of people using their own mobile devices while at work is set to increase significantly in the next four years, according to a new study.
Juniper Research has forecast over one billion personal smartphones and tablets will be used at work by 2018, which will account for more than a third (35 per cent) of total consumer-owned products.
This trend is known as bring your own device (BYOD) and is already becoming increasingly common in UK workplaces. Juniper said the growth of BYOD will "redefine business connectivity".
Companies can benefit from this approach as it saves them the cost of purchasing devices for their employees. However, it does mean there will be an even greater need for them to have a fast and reliable broadband connection.
A growing number of Britons now own mobile devices such as tablets, with research from Gartner forecasting shipments of these products will have increased by more than 53 per cent over the course of 2013.
