Online shopping is becoming so popular that 2.2 billion parcels and packages will be in circulation by 2017, according to a new report.
A report by IMRG and Manhattan Associates claimed ecommerce orders will have grown by 70 per cent in 2017 and much of this increase will be driven by international sales.
Nearly three-quarters of retailers are already shipping goods overseas.
The report estimated that 1.3 billion packages were sent by UK companies as a result of online orders in 2012.
Andy Mulcahy, head of communications at IMRG, commented: "The volumes of parcels and packages from UK online retail is forecast to continue to grow rapidly over the next few years and we further anticipate that by 2020 around one-third of online orders will be going cross-border in Europe."
