ISPs block download sites header image

Some of the UK's leading internet service providers (ISPs) have blocked access to two websites.

BT, Sky and Virgin Media will prevent their users from accessing the Download4All and Movie2k sites after a court order issued in April found the websites guilty of copyright infringement and other providers are expected to follow suit in the near future.

A Virgin Media statement said: "As a responsible ISP, we operate within the clear, legal framework put in place to protect against copyright infringement and we continue to comply with court orders addressed to us."

The two sites in question allowed internet users to stream films or download files free of charge.

This issue of copyright infringement and illegal downloading remains highly contentious and the music licensing group PPL has recently released a list of 25 websites, which it wants ISPs to block.

MP3 streaming and download sites such as Grooveshark and ExtraTorrent are included on the list, TorrentFreak reports.
